Donut is a Slack app that integrates with our members to create unique message workflows connecting people around tasks. These are broken into different types, such as Onboarding, 1-on-1s, Mentorship and Pairing (see below), but can basically be thought of in the same way as a drip email campaign or other automatic reminder for just about any task you can think of.
We have free use of the Premium plan as a result of our Nonprofit status and by asking nicely after explaining how it can help us connect our members, given our mission. In exchange for this, we list Donut as a supporter on our website and integrate small amounts of messaging about it in our workflows.
You can see more at the links below, your check out the Donut Help Center.
The Onboarding capability allows for key dates (end of Week 1, etc.) to be timed out with specific messages, links and other information, as well as surveys and feedback. The webpage (click image above) has examples.
This can be used for both new members of the DEF Community as well as new volunteers, with individuals able to add themselves to a simple list and then be imported to start the workflow, or be automatically added based off certain criteria.
Beyondboarding takes the same tools used to bring continuous engagement and feedback in Onboarding and continues to cultivate feedback and connections over longer periods of time.
This is available to any group or custom workflow we desire, and is likely most suitable for LT members, volunteers and Agora leads, with whom long-term engagement and feedback is key.
A tool that would make sense among volunteers, including LT members, this creates routine reminders and agenda items for one-on-one check-ins. It structures those engagements to be more focused, while also ensuring the don't get missed in and among our busy schedules.
Available to any group composition or size we want, this is a very widely applicable capability that could work well inside of a topic channel (such as #machine-learning) or even a self-selecting group of people with a common goal (such as a women-only mentorship group).
We have tried this particular tool (which was available in the free version) several times, but without much success. It is likely that we would see better results by integrating it with an opt-in list fed by Zapier and Google Forms.
