Almost all volunteer communication takes place via Slack. Regular conversations, questions, issues, etc. Don't send an email to a fellow DEF volunteer - instead, post a note or question in one of the volunteer channels (use lt-general if unsure), that way everyone can see it and help, plus we all learn from the experience. If personal, send them a DM in Slack. This standard keeps us connected and not spread out across email, text, Slack and smoke signals as a team.
Program and project management communication flow through Trello via comments on the cards. This ensures people are able to tie ongoing activities to a task when looking at it. Please see How We Work for further details.
Use Gmail as a fallback when someone is not part of DEF (such as an organization with whom the Engagement Team is working). You should use the "Send to Slack" app in Gmail to move conversations for DEF action into Slack for broader awareness.
To ensure proper attention, emails should include the following:
A subject line whose first word indicates its purpose, e.g. INFO or ACTION
If you are requesting an action or response from someone, please bold their names or use the @name feature built-in to DEF's email with Gmail to tag them.
